San Diego is an amazing place. We spent so much time researching things to do and trying to narrow it down because the options are overwhelming! On our first day, we decided to go to Balboa Park. It is incredibly big, but is pretty easy to navigate. We went to the Spanish Art Village, which has this fun rainbow path through the whole thing.
We also went to the Rose Garden and the Desert Garden. They were both incredibly beautiful and I’d highly recommend going. The park is separated into a lot of different gardens. You would need at least a day to go through all of them, so we chose three and I’m so happy we did. We loved them all and got to walk by some of the other gardens on the way. The three that we went to are free, but you do have to pay for some of them, like the Japanese Garden.
We decided to spend a day in La Jolla and I’m so happy we did because there is so much to do there. We started out by doing the Ho Chi Minh trail. It’s beautiful, but it’s definitely not easy. I had seen it labeled as “moderate” on a hiking website, but I would definitely say it’s hard. Of course, there were surfers walking by with their surfboards. But, walking on a steep sand path in sneakers is no easy task! You definitely get some awesome views though. π
After the trail, we headed to the beach. There are so many to choose from in La Jolla and there are seals and sea lions everywhere! You can get really close to them, although you don’t want to get too close, of course. It was crowded, but really beautiful. There are also a ton of shops and restaurants in La Jolla, so it’s easy to spend a whole day there.
We went to Sunset Cliffs one night and, if you’re ever in San Diego, you have to do this! It’s kind of out of the way, but it’s absolutely beautiful and you get amazing views of the beach & sunset, of course. π
We also spent a day in Coronado, which was beautiful! We took the ferry there and spent the day walking through shops and visiting Hotel del Coronado. The beach is beautiful and there are some cute restaurants there too.
On our last morning, we went to Communal Coffee. It was a must while we were there! I couldn’t leave without seeing the “coffee & flowers” wall that I’m always eyeing on Instagram. This place is amazing. It’s beautiful inside, they have great coffee & food and that pretty wall definitely lives up to the pictures. π
Here are some of the restaurants and things to do that I’d recommend:
Restaurants:
- Duke’s La Jolla
- Stone Brewing Co.
- Draft
- Rustic Root
- Coronado Brewing Co.
- Donut Bar (a must-it’s amazing!)
(Duke’s and Stone are my two favorites!)
Things to Do:
- U.S.S. Midway
- Hotel del Coronado
- Padres game
- Seaport Village
- The Cave Store
- Sunset Cliffs
